The JEE Main paper pattern is divided into three sections: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) consists of 75 compulsory questions worth 300 marks. The exam is a 3-hour Computer-Based Test (CBT) with a uniform marking scheme of +4 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect responses.
The question paper is divided into two sections for each subject: Section A (Multiple-Choice Questions) and Section B (Numerical Value Questions).

Important Guidelines to Note:
- No Optional Numerical Questions: In Section B, candidates used to have choices (eg, attempt 5 out of 10). Now, all 5 numerical value questions are compulsory per subject
- Negative Marking Applies: Both MCQs and numerical questions carry a negative marking of -1 for incorrect answers Unanswered questions receive 0 marks
- Languages: The exam can be taken in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. [2]
